Monologues can be memorized or read. Please be sure to state your name and phone number at the beginning of your tape. If you are familiar with the show, you may submit any monologue you choose. If you are unfamiliar, please use one of the monologues found below.

Announcing open auditions for the August production of Are the Bennet Girls OK?

This new play (2025) explores the relationships between Austen’s Bennet sisters through a modern lens, telling their familiar story but with modern language and sensibilities.

Seeking actors (16*-29) to play the following female-presenting roles: LIZZIE, JANE, KITTY, LYDIA, MARY, CHARLOTTE, GEORGIANA

Seeking actors (18-35) to play one or multiple of the following male-presenting roles: DARCY, BINGLEY, WICKHAM, MR. COLLINS, MR BENNET

Auditions May 2 at the Reformed Church of Keyport, Fellowship Hall

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS FOR AUDITIONS

LIZZIE- always right. Very smart, sees through everyone’s BS except her own. Not actually the oldest sister, but those vibes. (The playwright suggests this role be played by a plus-sized actress.)

JANE- actually the oldest. Kind of soft, very pretty but has been let down a lot so she’s trying really hard to be aloof and less affected by things. She also has a deep boiling pit of rage that will drag her to the center of the earth if she gets too close.

KITTY- Perpetual middle child, attempting to balance the scales and prevent anyone from jumping off a cliff. Would always rather be in a barn.

LYDIA- little bit of a brat and also man-crazy. Hasn’t had any bad experiences, hasn’t had any experiences period but is desperate for attention and a man. She doesn’t fully understand that feeling but that’s what’s going on.

MARY- loner, loves botany and music but everyone hates her singing and doesn’t understand the botany stuff. Genuinely suffers from chronic migraines, but this emphasizes her out of the loop status. Prefers rules to people.

CHARLOTTE- Lizzie’s best friend, who is less cool than Lizzie thinks.

GEORGIANA- Darcy’s sister, kind of a mean girl.

DARCY- Kind of a jerk but ultimately more loyal than anything else.

BINGLEY- Kind of a jerk but would consider himself a sweetheart, in part because everyone tells him he’s a sweetheart, and in part because he hangs out exclusively with Darcy, who is more obviously kind of a jerk.

WICKHAM- Kind of a jerk but in an actively harmful TinderSwindler way.

MR. COLLINS- Not a jerk, just really really weird. Like clips his toenails and keeps them weird.

MR. BENNET- The very close to death patriarch of the Bennet family. Completely useless. (non-speaking)

**DARCY/BINGLEY/WICKHAM/MR.COLLINS/MR BENNET can all be played by one person or several.
